Settings

Open Settings in the app. Settings apply to the device, the desktop app or the selected hub account:

See Desktop app for local/network connections, certificates and CLI setup. Independent CLI clients keep their own protected token files.

Notifications

Desktop Message notifications work while the window is hidden. Muted chats, the chat you are currently reading, and old or duplicate messages stay silent.

Turn Notification sound on or off independently. macOS and Linux use the bundled Soft pair chime; Windows uses its native system notification sound. Preview sends a test notification with sound. System notification and quiet settings still apply. Message bursts request at most one sound every three seconds.

Automatic downloads

The agent-wechat hub downloads new attachments without a browser or API client being open. Each account has its own size limit, initially 50 MB (52,428,800 bytes).

ContentAutomatic download
Image and video thumbnailsAlways, when a source is provided
Voice notesAlways, in playback format
Standard and original imagesEach version whose advertised size is within the limit
Standard and original videosEach version whose advertised size is within the limit
Files and stickersWhen their advertised size is within the limit
Larger or unknown-size versionsOn request

Change the limit

  1. Select an account and read its settings:

    Terminal window
    wx --account personal --json accounts settings
    { "autoDownloadMaxBytes": 52428800 }
  2. Set the limit in MB (the CLI uses 1,048,576 bytes per MB):

    Terminal window
    wx --account personal --json accounts settings --auto-download-max-mb 50
    { "autoDownloadMaxBytes": 52428800 }

    Set 0 to keep only thumbnails and voice notes automatic. The maximum is 512, matching the supported file download ceiling. Changes apply to new attachments and automatic work that has not yet been admitted; running transfers and already downloaded files stay intact.

In the browser, open Settings → Automatic downloads. This controls media kept on the hub. On this device describes separate temporary browser copies.

API and SDK

Read with GET /v1/accounts/{account}/settings and update with PATCH /v1/accounts/{account}/settings:

{ "autoDownloadMaxBytes": 52428800 }

Reading requires the existing account read scope; updating requires media. The response contains the saved settings, and the account event stream emits account.settings_updated.

const settings = await client.accountSettings(accountId);
await client.updateAccountSettings(accountId, {
autoDownloadMaxBytes: 50 * 1024 * 1024,
});

Media responses expose advertisedByteLength when the sender provided a size and autoDownloadAllowed for the current account policy. byteLength still describes verified downloaded bytes. A missing advertised size does not mean an empty file.
